Privacy Policy
Homina · Effective October 9, 2026
This policy explains what information Homina collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to the Homina web app and the data connected to it, including bank accounts you choose to link through Plaid.
Information we collect
- Account information. When you sign in with phone (SMS verification code), Google, or Apple, we store your sign-in identifier and a profile record with your display name, phone number, and profile photo if you add one.
- Content you create. Tasks, calendar entries, categories, colors, saving goals, pod names, budget entries (income, bills, spending limits), and the settings you choose in the app menu.
- Messages. Direct messages and pod messages. These are end-to-end encrypted between members, which means they are encrypted on your device and only readable by the people in the conversation. We store the encrypted form and the metadata needed to deliver messages (participants and timestamps).
- Financial account data. If you link a bank account, account name, type, last four digits, balances, and transaction history are retrieved through Plaid, a financial data service that connects to your bank. Homina never sees or stores your bank login credentials — you enter those directly in Plaid's secure window.
- Payment data. Subscriptions (Homina Family and Homina Premium) are processed by Stripe. We store your subscription status, plan, renewal date, and billing portal references. We do not store your full card number.
- Transfers. Records of money you send, request, deposit, or contribute to a goal or pod, including amounts, parties, and status.
- Technical data. Error reports and basic usage information needed to keep the app working and to detect abuse.
How we use information
- To create and maintain your account and sign you in.
- To provide the features you use: calendars, tasks, pods, chats, saving goals, budgets, transfers, and linked-bank balances.
- To process subscriptions and keep track of what plan each pod is on.
- To show shared calendars and pod calendars to the friends and pod members you explicitly share them with.
- To generate budget plans and category suggestions when you ask the built-in AI assistant for help. Your budget numbers are sent to the AI provider only to answer that request.
- To detect fraud, enforce rate limits, and keep the service secure.
Who we share information with
We share data only with the service providers needed to run Homina, and only for the purposes described here:
- Plaid — connects your bank account and returns balances and transactions when you link a bank. Plaid's own privacy policy governs how it handles your bank credentials and data: https://plaid.com/legal/
- Stripe — processes subscription payments. Stripe's privacy policy: https://stripe.com/privacy
- Twilio — delivers SMS verification codes when you sign in by phone.
- AI provider — receives only the text of a budgeting question when you use the AI budget features.
Other people in Homina see what you choose to share with them: friends you approve for calendar sharing, members of pods you join, and people you send money to or request money from. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
Data retention
We keep your data only as long as necessary to provide our services and meet legal obligations. Each data type has a defined retention period and secure disposal procedure. Account data is deleted within 14 days of an account closure request, audit logs are retained for 3 years, and bank connection data is deleted within 14 days of unlinking a bank. For the full schedule and disposal details, see our Data Retention & Disposal Policy.
Security
Your data is stored with an access-controlled cloud provider, protected by row-level permissions so each user can only read their own records and the pods they belong to. Chats are end-to-end encrypted between members. We use rate limiting, audit logging, and encrypted connections. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security, but we work to protect your data and will notify you of any incident affecting it where required.
Your choices and rights
- Edit your profile, settings, and content at any time in the app.
- Hide any friend's shared calendar, or block a friend, from the Friends section.
- Unlink a bank account at any time from Bank Accounts.
- Cancel a subscription from your pod's billing page; cancellation stops future renewals.
- Delete content or ask us to close your account and delete your data by contacting support.
Children and Family pods
Children under 13 may use Homina only through a Family pod created and managed by their parent or legal guardian (the “Parent”). The Parent's paid subscription and creation of the child's profile serves as the Parent's verifiable consent to our collection and use of the child's information as described here. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13 outside of a Parent-managed Family pod.
What we collect for a child. Only what the Parent provides or the child adds inside the pod: display name, date of birth, profile photo, tasks, calendar entries, saving goals, budget entries, and end-to-end encrypted messages with pod members. We do not require a child to provide more information than is reasonably necessary to use the app.
How a child's information is used and protected. A child's information is used only to run the Family pod features. For every child under 13, the strictest privacy settings apply automatically and cannot be weakened by anyone, including the Parent: the child's profile is visible only to themselves, their activity status and search visibility are off, no data sharing preferences are enabled, and their calendar is shared only within their Family pod. Children under 13 do not appear in people search and cannot send or receive money. We never sell a child's personal information, never use it for advertising, and never send marketing to a child.
Parent rights. The Parent can review everything in their child's account from the Family dashboard, correct or delete the child's content and profile information at any time, and withdraw consent by deleting the child's profile or closing the Family pod — after which the child's personal information is deleted within the timeframes in our Data Retention & Disposal Policy.
If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information without a parent's consent, contact us through the Support section of the app and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and notify you in the app before the changes take effect.
